Kathleen Munn and Melanie Fulton

Umbel, meaning flower clusters which grow and spread from a common centre, is a joint exhibition with Fleurieu artists Kathleen Munn and Melanie Fulton. Botanically focused it has various themes exploring ideas around what are considered to be exotic blooms and what is regarded as local flora. Both artists refer to traditions of floral and botanical painting and illustration. Kathleen Munn with her reference to Dutch 'vanitas' paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries and Melanie Fulton through her engagement with fabric decoration and the ethic of gathering and utilising what is at hand.
